Here Comes the Sun (unexpected fiction!)

It’s been a loud, cold, bumpy ride the whole way.

We got a nice meal earlier.  You know, just in case.  I feel a little sick to my stomach, not from food, just nerves.

I guess it’s the idea that our strength comes in numbers, and that means so many of us droppin’ from the sky there’s no way they can get us all.  That’s a polite way of sayin’ most of us will get shot before we hit the ground.  And if you don’t get shot before you hit the ground, you’ll get shot after.

Yup, the odds ain’t good.

There’s puke on the plane floor and I’m sure there’ll be more when its time to jump.  I’ll just have to be careful, hang on to sumthin’ as I make my way down.  I already decided if I can hold it, I’m gonna wait ‘til the drop so it lands on some damn Nazi.

It stinks real bad, kinda’ reminds me of Coney Island.

Five years ago I was visiting my brother.  We had a nice fish and rice dinner’, and thought we’d finish it off with a little wine.  Only thing is, he didn’t have no white wine, only red.  I dunno’ fish and red don’t mix so well, especially when you drink twice as much as your supposed too.

I guess normally, no harm done.  Then my brother says, “Lets head down to Coney Island!”

And I say, “That sounds great!”

Not so great later.

So I come stumbling off a ride that goes round and round and round and round, that’s all I remember…

“You ok Billy?”  My brother asks as I stumble out of the ride.

I mumble, “Yeah, just a little dizzy, and, and…”

“Wha…what did he say?” he says to his buddy that came with us.

Then it all comes up.

“Oh, that’s what you said.” He corrects.

“Can I get some water somewhere?”  I ask.

“Yeah, sure whatever you need”   My big brother says.  “Lets go.”

Well that’s how I feel now, sittin’ in this plane, bouncin’ up and down…I think I can hold it, as long as we don’t start spinnin’ all around the place.  Which could happen if we get shot down, but that ain’t happened yet, so I guess we’re good to go!
